XAUUSD Profit/Loss Calculator

See exactly what a gold trade made — or would make. Enter direction, entry, exit and size; get signed USD profit/loss, pips, points and per-lot figures. Contract size is adjustable — 100 oz is the standard preset, not a universal rule.

Why a gold-specific calculator? Gold (XAUUSD) P/L depends on ounces per lot — most brokers use 100 oz, but 10 oz and 1 oz contracts exist. A generic calculator that assumes currency lots gets gold P/L wrong. Need the right size first? Use the Gold Lot Size Calculator →

How the calculation works

Price Move = Exit Price − Entry Price (signed $/oz)
Signed Move = Price Move × (+1 for Long, −1 for Short)
Gross P/L = Signed Move × Lots × Contract Size
Pips = Signed Move ÷ Pip Size  ·  Points = Signed Move ÷ 0.01
P/L per 1.0 lot = Signed Move × Contract Size
Per-ounce P/L = Signed Move (each ounce you hold captures this $/oz move)

Assumptions & limitations

  • 100 oz is a preset, not a rule. Most brokers quote XAUUSD at 100 oz per 1.0 lot, but 10 oz and 1 oz contracts exist. Check your broker's contract specification.
  • Spread, commission, swap and slippage are not included — your real result will differ slightly.
  • No live price feed. Enter prices manually; the math does not need live data.
  • Results are educational only — not financial advice. Past hypothetical P/L says nothing about future results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is 1 lot of XAUUSD in dollars per $1 move?
On a standard 100 oz contract, 1.0 lot gains or loses $100 for every $1 that gold moves. On a 10 oz contract it is $10 per $1 move, and on a 1 oz contract $1 per $1 move.
How do I calculate profit on a gold short position?
A short profits when price falls. Select "Short", enter your entry and exit — the calculator flips the sign automatically. Example: short 1.0 lot at $4,000, exit $3,980 → +$20/oz × 100 oz = +$2,000 (before costs).
What is the difference between pips and points on XAUUSD?
Most gold traders call $0.10 one pip ($1 = 10 pips). A point is $0.01 ($1 = 100 points). Use the pip-convention toggle above to match your broker or community.
Does this include spread and commission?
No. This is the gross P/L from price movement alone. Subtract your broker's spread and commission for the net figure.
Can I use this for open positions?
Yes — enter the current market price as the exit price to see your floating P/L. Remember the price you type is manual; the calculator has no live feed.
